Most FIFO & Trade Employees claim the usual Tools, PPE, Laundry, Use of phone etc as deductions. But many are eligible for more.  Here are some you might not have thought of:

  • Did you DRIVE to buy tools, equipment, PPE, see your accountant, go to a meeting, attend training or a medical?
  • Did you carry heavy or bulky tools or equipment to work?
  • Did your employer provide you with a mobile phone, but you prefer to use yours & you don't think you can claim yours anymore?
  • Did you PAY to repair your PPE?
  • Did you DRIVE to repair your PPE?
  • Did you buy tools because you prefer them to the ones work provided you with?
  • Did you renew your police check?
  • Did you renew a license?
  • Did you pay for relevant training?
  • Did you use your home to store tools or equipment?
  • Did you work when back home? For example write reports? Organise employee shifts and rosters?
  • Did you buy sunscreen or sunglasses? Did you DRIVE to buy these?

** Please note: ATO stipulates that if the total of all your claims combined is over $300, you must have receipts for every single claim.
